Nabors drilling has just finished building CDR3, which is a new state of the art coil tubing rig for Conoco Phillips. CDR3 is the sister rig to CDR2 that was built in 2009. Conoco Phillips has had tremendous success with CDR2, which has drilled over 80 wells since it began operation in 2009. CDR3 has some notable improvements from CDR2 such as more advanced VFD drive system, automated generator controls, and upgraded driller control system. ARP automation played an integral part in the design and implementation of CDR3’s electrical power and control systems.
The rig includes 2 – C15 and 2 – C9 generators with fully integrated and automated switching between highline and generator power, automated load sharing between sub and service module power via tie-breakers, AC injector integration with auto drill system, advanced storage reel control with the ability to switch between varying sizes of reels from the drillers HMI screen, 400 Hp drawworks, 2 – 1250 Hp Triplex mud pumps, and a 11 camera system.
